Home Owner Insurance

Homeowner’s Insurance Can Save You Money And Heartache

The only time that most people think about homeowner’s insurance is when they are paying their premiums or filing a claim. But waiting until something goes wrong may be too late. There are exclusions that vary by the insurer that you need to know ahead of time.

If you do your homework early, you may be able to either switch companies or purchase a rider to stay protected.

A couple of things to check your policy for are mold, water damage and sewer backup. Standard homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover water damage that is a result of water seepage or leakage, humidity or condensation problems, or landscaping or drainage problems.

Water damage caused by floods is also excluded. If any of these water or moisture problems mentioned results in mold, it would probably not be covered by your policy.

Sewer backup is also not covered in most homeowner insurance policies unless you purchase a special rider. Without a rider, if the plumbing or toilet backups in your home you will be the one responsible for the cost of the cleaning and any repairs that are necessary. The home insurance lead owner and not the company is held liable unless you do your homework early and make sure that you are covered.

If you want to have one bill to pay for all of your insurance needs, you may be able to call the company that you have your automobile insurance policy with and purchase homeowner’s insurance from them as well. With the current state of the economy it’s the rare individual who can afford any additional living expenses. Being an informed consumer can not only help you keep your premiums low, it can also help you make sure that what you think is covered actually is protected.
